In conventional milking systems you need a volume of milk that equals five to ten percent of the tank’s total capacity, just to start cooling. With average flow rates of 1.6 l/min commonly found in robotic milking systems, it would take hours to reach that level, depending on the tank size! As a result, DeLaval has developed two unique cooling systems to work with DeLaval volutary milking system VMS and help ensure your milk quality is preserved.

Flow controlled cooling helps avoid common problems found on systems not adapted to the realities of automatic milking – like milk freezing, high plate counts, water residues and high freezing points. DeLaval flow controlled cooling FCC links DeLaval VMS to the cooling tank and one of our cleaning and control units DeLaval T100 or T200. If needed, you can even use DeLaval FCC with DeLaval cleaning unit T150 or T250 to get watchdog and data management features on top. DeLaval VMS exchanges all relevant alarms with all our T-family of cleaning and control units. Everything is communicated to the milker via the DeLaval VMS display and optional external warning devices.
Imagine you keep your existing cooling tank and you want to keep investment in the cooling system for your DeLaval VMS to a minimum. DeLaval FCC allows DeLaval VMS to communicate with your old tank. If you already have a DeLaval tank with a T-family cleaning and control unit (T100 up to T250), you just need one DeLaval FCC unit per DeLaval VMS unit. Finally, if you already have another brand of cooling tank, you can add a DeLaval T100S standalone cleaning and control unit and a DeLaval FCC per each DeLaval VMS unit. It couldn’t be simpler.

Instant cooling systems are designed to work around the clock without human interaction. The 300 l buffer tank on our unique IN system is designed to work perfectly with instant cooling.
It collects milk from the automatic milking system, then sends it batch cooled down to 3ºC to 4ºC into the storage or cooling tank. This all smoothly happens within minutes after harvesting, using a plate cooler and a frequency controlled milk pump.
Only cold milk is delivered to the main tank so there is less milk agitation inside it. Milk freezing and incubation risks are virtually non-existent. All the cleaning functions are automatic and are coordinated with the cleaning of the milking system. At milk collection time, only a few buttons need to be activated. No part needs to be moved or cleaned manually. In case of unexpected errors, the system will send an alert so preventive action can be taken before a problem occurs.

If you can use tap water for pre-cooling the milk to 3ºC to 4ºC above tap water temperature, you only need a smaller water chiller to feed the deep cooling section. This is what we call IN-P solution. It uses two-section plate coolers for pre-cooling and deep milk cooling. |

If there is not enough tap water for pre-cooling the milk, then go for our IN-T solution. This uses two medium sized water chillers to feed both plate cooler sections. |

Finally, if you think that big is beautiful, then our IN-S solution is for you. With one large water chiller we feed the one-section deep cooling plate cooler. |
One of the challenges of cooling milk in an automatic milking system (AMS) is correctly connecting all the system’s devices so they work in harmony.
