DeLaval patents cow traffic solution for automatic milking systems

DeLaval has patented its cow traffic solution for automatic milking systems for Sweden. The patent covers the company’s solution for cow traffic with free access to roughage. Additionally the patent covers cow traffic with usage of extra feed stations as well as for mixed rations. The solution is marketed under the trademark DeLaval Feed First.

- DeLaval Feed First allows free access to roughage, a way of planning that is beginning to dominate the planning of barns with automatic systems in Scandinavia”, says Björn Johansson at DeLaval Sales AB.

The main advantage with the DeLaval Feed First planning, according to the company, is that it ensures more regular milking intervals. Regular intervals is one important factor in reaching higher yields while ensuring the udder health. DeLaval Feed First also means that fewer cows have to be fetched for milking.

The DeLaval Feed First solution – which originates from a close co-operation between VMS-farmers, scientist at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the R&D team of DeLaval – will be marketed under the trademark DeLaval Feed First.

- Robot milking is not just about the robot, it is part of a complete solution. It is equally important to plan the cow traffic so that it supports the natural behaviour of the cow. Also, a reliable management system that takes each cow and its individual conditions into consideration is another essential part. All put together, it can result in as much as several hundreds of kilos more milk per day – a relevant significance for farm profitability,” concludes Björn Johansson.
